1. APEC Symposium on Paperless Trading Capacity Building and IP Protection was held in Beijing on August 14th - 16th 2007.
2. Paperless trading capacity building plays a very important role in promoting regional trade and investment facilitation. The establishment of an effective IP innovation, operation and protection mechanism would help the rational allocation of IP resource and improve the paperless trading capacity building of APEC member economies. Based on such recognition, representatives held active and fruitful discussions on issues which they have a common interest, including the relationship between paperless trading and Intellectual Property, current situation of IP protection related to paperless trade, sustainable development of paperless trading, under the theme of ¨ Paperless Trading: Capacity Building and IP Protection〃.
3. Participants reviewed the efforts and achievements made in paperless trading capacity building and IP protection by APEC member economies. Participants deepened their understanding through the exchanges of views.
4. Recognizing the importance of IP protection in the area of paperless trade, the organizers would like to propose following recommendations.
The Development Roadmap for APEC Paperless Trading Capacity Building and IP Protection. The organizers believed that member economies should gradually and reasonably enhance the paperless trading capacity building based on their own development to live up the major objectives in the APEC Blueprint for Actions on Electronic Commerce.
Framework of APEC Paperless Trading Intellectual Property Service System. The organizers encouraged member economies to develop flexible policies, such as institutional arrangements for the knowledge resources service, as so to enhance IP protection related to paperless trade in APEC Region.?@
Directory of Paperless Trade and Service Platform for the Knowledge Resource System. The organizers recommended to strengthen communication and cooperation on establishing Directory of Paperless Trade and Service Platform for the Knowledge Resource System, so as to advance the recognition, popularization and transaction of related product and service, and eliminate obstacles for APEC overall paperless trading development.
Digital Rights Management Promotion Committee of APEC E-Commerce Business Alliance. The organizers supported the proposal of APEC E-Commerce Business Alliance, as so to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on digital copyright protection, improve the environmental building for optimization of digital copyright protection and boost the overall development process of digital copyright protection in the Asia and Pacific region.
